The Tranquility of the Awakened
અરહન્તવગ્ગો સામાન્ય મનની ભૌતિક આસક્તિ અને અરહંતની પરમ મુક્તિ વચ્ચેનો તફાવત સમજાવવા માટે આકાશમાં ઉડતા પક્ષીઓ અને અડગ પર્વતનું સુંદર રૂપક વાપરે છે.
गतद्धिनो विसोकस्स, विप्पमुत्तस्स सब्बधि।
सब्बगन्थप्पहीनस्स, परिळाहो न विज्जति॥
જેની યાત્રા પૂર્ણ થઈ ગઈ છે, જે શોકરહિત છે, સર્વથા મુક્ત છે, જેની બધી જ ગ્રંથિઓ (ગાંઠો) કપાઈ ગઈ છે, તેના માટે કોઈ પણ પ્રકારનો સંતાપ (માનસિક પીડા, તીવ્ર ઈચ્છા, અગવડતા) જોવા મળતો નથી.
One who has completed the journey is free of sorrow, fully liberated in all respects; He has removed all knots, [in him] no fever [mental torment, distress, strong desire, discomfort] can be found.
उय्युञ्जन्ति सतीमन्तो, न निकेते रमन्ति ते।
हंसाव पल्ललं हित्वा, ओकमोकं जहन्ति ते॥
સ્મૃતિમાન (સજાગ, સાવધાન) લોકો પ્રસ્થાન કરે છે, તેઓ ઘરમાં આનંદ લેતા નથી; જેમ હંસ તળાવ છોડીને ચાલ્યા જાય છે, તેવી જ રીતે તેઓ એક પછી એક બધાં ઘર (રહેઠાણો) છોડી દે છે.
The mindful [attentive, fully present] ones depart [set out, go away, leave home], they do not delight in a home; Like a swan having left a pond behind, they give up home after home.
येसं सन्निचयो नत्थि, ये परिञ्ञातभोजना।
सुञ्ञतो अनिमित्तो च, विमोक्खो येसं गोचरो।
आकासे व सकुन्तानं, गति तेसं दुरन्नया॥
જેઓ (કર્મો અને ઈચ્છાઓનો) સંચય (સંગ્રહ) કરતા નથી, જેઓએ આહાર (પોષણ, અસ્તિત્વનું ઇંધણ) ને સંપૂર્ણપણે જાણી લીધો છે; શૂન્યતા (સાર વિનાનું) અને નિમિત્તરહિત (માનસિક છબીઓથી મુક્ત) મુક્તિ જ જેમની ગોચરભૂમિ (કાર્યક્ષેત્ર) છે; આકાશમાં પક્ષીઓની જેમ, તેમની ગતિ (માર્ગ, દિશા) જાણવી મુશ્કેલ છે.
For whom there is no accumulation [hoarding, stockpiling], who has completely comprehended nutriment [nourishment, food, fuel] [of existence]; Whose field of activity [grazing ground, domain] is liberation, which is uninhabited [without essence, abiding of emptiness] and free of mental images [signless, featureless]; Like birds in the sky, their trajectory [going, passing on, path, course, destination] is hard to trace.
यस्सासवा परिक्खीणा, आहारे च अनिस्सितो।
सुञ्ञतो अनिमित्तो च, विमोक्खो यस्स गोचरो।
आकासे व सकुन्तानं, पदं तस्स दुरन्नयं॥
જેના આશ્રવો (ચિત્તના મળો, દોષો) સંપૂર્ણપણે ક્ષીણ થઈ ગયા છે, જે આહાર (પોષણ) પર નિર્ભર નથી; શૂન્યતા અને નિમિત્તરહિત મુક્તિ જ જેની ગોચરભૂમિ છે; આકાશમાં પક્ષીઓની જેમ, તેમના પગલાં (માર્ગ) જાણવા મુશ્કેલ છે.
Whose defilements [outflows, discharges, taints] are completely exhausted, who is not dependent on nourishment [sustenance, food]; Whose field of activity is liberation, which is uninhabited and free of mental images; Like birds in the sky, their steps are hard to trace.
यस्सिन्द्रियानि समथङ्गतानि, अस्सा यथा सारथिना सुदन्ता।
पहीनमानस्स अनासवस्स, देवापि तस्स पिहयन्ति तादिनो॥
સારથિ દ્વારા સારી રીતે કેળવાયેલા (નિયંત્રિત) ઘોડાઓની જેમ જેની ઇન્દ્રિયો શાંત થઈ ગઈ છે; જેણે અભિમાન (અહંકાર) છોડી દીધું છે અને જે આશ્રવરહિત (દોષોથી મુક્ત) છે, દેવતાઓને પણ એવો વ્યક્તિ પ્રિય હોય છે.
Whose senses have become tranquil, like horses well-tamed [well trained, well controlled] by a charioteer; Giving up conceit [self-view expressed as comparison] and free from defilements, even the gods hold dear such a person.
पठविसमो नो विरुज्झति, इन्दखीलुपमो तादि सुब्बतो।
रहदोव अपेतकद्दमो, संसारा न भवन्ति तादिनो॥
જે પૃથ્વીની જેમ વિચલિત થતો નથી, ઇન્દ્રકીલ (શહેરના મજબૂત સ્તંભ) ની જેમ અડગ એવા સદાચારી વ્યક્તિ; કાદવ વિનાના સ્વચ્છ સરોવર જેવા તે વ્યક્તિ માટે, સંસાર (જન્મ અને મૃત્યુનું ચક્ર) રહેતો નથી.
One who does not get disturbed, just like a solid rock, such a virtuous person, immovable as a city post [a strong pillar]; Like a lake cleansed of mud, such a one does not undergo cyclic existence [wandering on from one state of existence to another, the cycle of birth and death, moving on continuously].
सन्तं तस्स मनं होति, सन्ता वाचा च कम्म च।
सम्मदञ्ञा विमुत्तस्स, उपसन्तस्स तादिनो॥
સમ્યક જ્ઞાન (સંપૂર્ણ સમજણ) દ્વારા સંપૂર્ણપણે મુક્ત થયેલા, શાંત અને અડગ એવા વ્યક્તિનું મન શાંત હોય છે, અને તેની વાણી તથા કર્મો પણ શાંત હોય છે.
His mind is peaceful, and peaceful are his speech and actions; Of one fully liberated by perfect understanding, of the tranquil and unshakeable one.
अस्सद्धो अकतञ्ञू च, सन्धिच्छेदो च यो नरो।
हतावकासो वन्तासो, स वे उत्तमपोरिसो॥
જે વ્યક્તિ માત્ર અંધશ્રદ્ધાથી પર છે, જે અજન્મા (નિર્વાણ) ને જાણે છે, અને જેણે અસ્તિત્વના ચક્ર સાથેનો સંબંધ તોડી નાખ્યો છે; જેણે (પુનર્જન્મની) સંભાવનાઓ નષ્ટ કરી છે, અને બધી જ ઈચ્છાઓ છોડી દીધી છે, તે ખરેખર ઉત્તમ પુરુષ છે.
Who is beyond mere faith, who knows the unborn [uncreated], and who has severed connection [to cycle of existence]; Destroyed the possibility, given up all wants [given up hope, vomited one's food], Such a one is indeed the best of persons.
गामे वा यदि वारञ्ञे, निन्ने वा यदि वा थले।
यत्थ अरहन्तो विहरन्ति, तं भूमिरमणेय्यकं॥
ગામ હોય કે જંગલ, ખીણ (નીચાણવાળી જમીન) હોય કે ટેકરી (ઉચ્ચ પ્રદેશ); જ્યાં પણ અરહંતો (જાગૃત લોકો) નિવાસ કરે છે, તે ભૂમિ રમણીય (આનંદદાયક) હોય છે.
Whether in a village or in the forest, whether on lowlands (valley [ninna]) or on highlands [high ground, plateau]; Wherever the awakened ones dwell, that place is pleasing.
रमणीयानि अरञ्ञानि, यत्थ न रमती जनो।
वीतरागा रमिस्सन्ति, न ते कामगवेसिनो॥
જંગલો રમણીય હોય છે, જ્યાં સામાન્ય લોકો આનંદ લેતા નથી; ત્યાં વીતરાગ (જુસ્સા અને ઈચ્છાઓથી મુક્ત) લોકો આનંદ માણશે, કારણ કે તેઓ ઇન્દ્રિય સુખોની શોધમાં હોતા નથી.
Delightful are the forests, where no people delight; Those free from passion [free from desires, without lust] will delight there, not those who seeking sensual pleasures.
